Ventilator management
Cardiopulmonary services are provided for those
children whose ability to breathe has been
compromised or who are dependent on mechanical
ventilation. Ventilators used have the latest
modes of ventilation for ease of breathing, and
were chosen for portability. This program provides
for ongoing assessment for ventilator weaning and
tracheotomy removal. Family training and equipment
assessments for transition to home are key to
successful outcomes. Other services include
medication delivery, diagnostic testing and
tracheotomy care. Many patients receive physical,
occupational, and speech/language therapies as
well.
Step-down ICU
Step-down ICU care is a cost-effective alternative
for those patients who no longer need the array of
services provided in the traditional acute
hospital setting, but may still require
observation, monitoring, and continued medical
supervision. Monitoring of vital signs is
available from the bedside to nurse’s station to
manage the most complex cases.
For those children who may have airborne diseases
or are immunosuppressed, HealthBridge has state-of-the-art isolation rooms equipped with negative
pressure and specialized filtration systems. Many
of these patients are admitted with central lines
and are on ventilators. Physical, occupational,
and speech/language therapies are provided if needed.
Sub-acute care
HealthBridge offers a
specialized program of services for children who
are medically fragile and technologically
dependent whose recovery may be slow or
indefinite. The goal is to integrate complex
medical care while providing normalcy and the best
quality of life possible.
This program can be long or short term. Extensive
family training, home adaptation, and access to
community resources are provided for those parents
wishing to transition their child home.
HealthBridge will continue to be the child’s home
if family circumstances are such that home
placement is not possible and complex care and
support is still required.
Craniosacral system therapy
The Craniosacral system is a physiological body
system which maintains the environment in which
the central nervous system functions. It consists
of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that
surround and protect the brain and spinal cord,
extending from the bones of the skull, face and
mouth (which make up the cranium) down to the
tailbone area (or sacrum). Its role is vital in
the development and performance of the brain and
spinal cord. An imbalance or dysfunction in the
craniosacral system can
cause sensory, motor and/or neurological
disabilities.
The Craniosacral system, much like the
cardiovascular system, has a rhythm that can be
felt throughout the body. Using touch, skilled
practitioners can monitor this rhythm at key body
points to pinpoint sources of obstruction or
stress. Once a source has been determined, we
can assist the natural movement of the fluid and
related soft tissue to help the body self correct.
CST may be combined with other complementary
therapies to help restore the body to its optimal
functioning level.
